9 Content Ideas for Creatives Who Hate Posting

picture of a cluttered desk. theres a computer in the center of the desk. lots of trinkets around the desk and many small pictures attached to the wall behind the desk.

Let's be honest, if you're a creative entrepreneur, there's a good chance you'd rather be doing literally anything else than posting on social media. I’m talking to all of you artists, graphic designers, writers, and small business owners. You didn't start your business to become a content creator. You started it because you're amazing at what you do.

But here's the thing: showing up online doesn't have to feel like a second job. You don't need to post three times a day or chase viral trends to grow your business. You just need a few solid content ideas that feel authentic and don't eat up all your creative energy.

I know you see other blogs and posts like this all the time, and it can feel like a lot to keep up with, but here's what makes this different from every other "content ideas" post you've read:

  • Every idea takes 15 minutes or less

  • Every caption is copy-and-paste ready

  • You can batch 2 weeks of content in one afternoon

  • You have permission to keep it simple

So if you're tired of staring at a blank screen wondering what to post, here are nine simple content ideas that work for creatives who hate posting.

1. Show Your Process (Not Just the Finished Product)

⏱️ Time to create: 5 minutes

Everyone loves seeing behind the scenes. It helps you invite your audience into your process and connect with them on a deeper level. Show your artistic process, even if you think it is boring and straight forward, I assure you it probably isn’t. I will never stop being amazed at how the resin changes color and hardens when my sister is working on products for her small business. It's authentic, requires minimal effort, and gives your audience a peek into your world without needing a polished script.

The Template:

  • What to Share: A quick video of one single step of your process. This could be a closeup of your palette while you mix paint, you trimming the clay, or sketching out a design. Add a text overlay with one of the following hooks:

    • My favorite part of the process

    • Watch this transformation

    • This is so satisfying

    • POV: you ordered a custom piece

    • The part of my process no one sees

    • Can you guess what I'm making?

    • The most important step in the process

  • Caption Format: What you are doing → What your audience should do OR why your audience should care

I know that caption seems vague so here are some more concrete examples:

  • Throwing bowls on the wheel this morning → These will be ready in about 3 weeks

  • Mixing custom colors for a client order → Swipe to see the inspiration palette

  • Sketching out ideas for my next collection → Comment if there’s anything specific you’d like to see

Next time you're working, take 3-5 short videos of different steps, and boom you just created a week's worth of content.

2. Repost Customer Photos or Testimonials

⏱️ Time to create: 2-3 minutes

Let your happy customers do the talking. I’m shocked by how many artists don’t even think to do this. People will often share photos of the final product in their home or send messages thanking you. Use that in your content strategy. When someone shares a photo of your work or leaves a glowing review, reshare it (with permission, of course). It's social proof, it's easy, and it builds community. Plus, you didn't have to create the content from scratch.

The Template:

  • What to share: Customer photo OR screenshot of a review/message

  • Caption Format: Keep it simple and grateful. Here are some options you can copy and paste if you’d like:

    • This just made my whole week 🤍 [tag customer]

    • Love seeing my work in your space! Thanks for sharing, [name]!

    • When customers send photos like this 😭❤️ Thank you [name]!

    • Nothing better than hearing this. Thank you for trusting me with your order! 🙏

Create a folder in your phone for customer photos and testimonials. When you need content, you have a ready-made stash.

I recommend adding a "Testimonials" or "Happy Customers" highlight on Instagram so people can see social proof right at the top of your profile.

3. Answer a Question You Get All the Time

⏱️ Time to create: 10 minutes

You know those questions you answer over and over in DMs or emails? Turn them into content. It's helpful, it positions you as an expert, and it saves you time answering the same question repeatedly.

The Template:

  • What to Share: You can always create a video of you talking, but this blog is for creatives who hate posting, so what I recommend is taking a quick video of you setting up your work, of a final piece, or even of you answering emails (just don’t show the screen lol) and overlay one of the following hooks:

    • The #1 question I get asked

    • You asked, so here's the honest answer

    • People always ask me this

    • Let me settle this once and for all

    • The question I get every single day

    • Since everyone keeps asking...

    • Real talk: here's the truth about [topic]

Caption Template: "Question][Your answer in 2-3 sentences][Optional: related info or call to action]

Here are a couple examples of captions (copy these and switch out the details with your own info. seriously, you should save this for later or copy these down. I’m trying to save you time here)

  • How long does it take to make one of these?
From start to finish, about 2-3 weeks. The actual hands-on time is around 8 hours, but then there's drying time, firing, glazing, and a second firing.
Each piece is worth the wait 🤍

  • Do you take custom orders?
Yes! Custom orders usually take 4-6 weeks from start to finish. Send me a DM with your vision and I'll let you know if it's something I can do.

  • FAQ: What's your favorite material to work with?
Honestly? I love working with reclaimed wood. Every piece has a story, and I love giving it a second life.
What's a material you'd love to see me use more?"

Make a list of your 10 most-asked questions. Schedule 30 minutes and answer 3-4 of them in one go. (if you are brand new and don’t get a lot of questions yet, make some up. What are questions your audience would probably ask.)

This is another type of content that makes a great instagram highlight. That way all your most asked questions are at the top of your profile and you don’t have to answer them all the time.

4. Share What Inspired You This Week

⏱️ Time to create: 5 minutes

Inspiration doesn't have to be profound. It can be a color palette you saw on a walk, a book you're reading, or a design detail that caught your eye.

The Template:

  • What to share: The thing that inspired you (screenshot, your own photo, etc.)

  • Caption Format: "Currently inspired by [thing]"

Copy-Paste Caption Templates:

Option 1 (Color/Visual): "Currently inspired by: [describe the thing]

These colors/shapes/textures are giving me so many ideas for [upcoming project/collection]. Can you see it making its way into my next piece?"

Option 2 (Book/Content): "What I'm reading/watching: [title]

[One sentence about what you're learning or loving]

Anyone else obsessed with [related theme]?"

Option 3 (Nature/Environment): "Found inspiration on my [morning walk/coffee run/grocery trip]:

[Describe what you noticed—colors, textures, patterns]

Sometimes the best ideas come from just paying attention ✨"

Real Example: "Currently inspired by: the way light hits water

I took this photo at the lake this morning and I can't stop thinking about these blues and greens. Already planning how to work them into my next pottery glaze 💙"

Batching tip: Screenshot or save 5-10 things that inspire you each week. When you need content, pick one and write 2 sentences about it.

Why it works: It's low-pressure, gives your audience insight into your creative process, and helps them feel connected to you.

5. Introduce Yourself (Again)

⏱️ Time to create: 10 minutes (but you only do this once every 2-3 months)

New people are discovering you all the time. Don't assume everyone knows your story.

What to Share: There are so many great options of what the photo/video could be for this post. You could use a simple headshot of you smiling and looking at the camera, a video of you showing your work, a video showing behind the scenes, day-in-the-life style clips, or you could video you talking and saying your introduction.

Caption Template: "Hi, I'm [name] 👋
I make [what you make] for [who you serve/what purpose].
I started [business name] because [one sentence about your why].
When I'm not [working], you can find me [hobby/interest/fun fact].
If you're new here, welcome! If you've been here a while, thanks for sticking around 🤍"

Here is my intro as an example:

Hi, I'm Tonya 👋
I make blog articles for people who feel stressed and overwhelmed marketing their small business.
I started Floreis Marketing because I work with artists often and regularly hear the same questions about content creation and marketing.
When I'm not working or writing blogs, you can find me watching pride and prejudice for the umpteenth time, hiking, cooking or cuddling with my dog Finley.
If you're new here, welcome! If you've been here a while, thanks for sticking around 🤍

Write this once, save it in your notes app, and just update it slightly every few months. Pin it to the top of your profile so new visitors see it first. It welcomes new followers and reminds existing ones why they love what you do.

6. Post a "Favorites" Roundup

⏱️ Time to create: 10-15 minutes

Share a few of your favorite pieces, products, or projects. This works especially well if you have a shop or portfolio.

The Template:

  • What to share: Carousel post (3-5 images) or single grid post with multiple items OR a video panning over the different products

  • Caption Template Options:

    • Option 1 (Seasonal): "A few of my favorites from [this month/this season/this year]:→ [Piece 1]: [One sentence why you love it] → [Piece 2]: [One sentence why you love it] → [Piece 3]: [One sentence why you love it] Which one speaks to you? 👇"

    • Option 2 (Simple & Short): "Current favorites from the studio 🤍[Optional: Swipe to see them all / All available in my shop—link in bio]"

    • Option 3 (Customer Favorites): "Your top picks from this month:These were the bestsellers and I totally get why. Each one makes me so happy 😊Which would you choose?"

I love this kind of content because it highlights your work without feeling salesy, and it's easy to create.

7. Share a Mistake or Lesson Learned

⏱️ Time to create: 5-10 minutes

People connect with realness. Sharing a mistake, a flop, or something you learned the hard way makes you relatable and trustworthy. Its important that your tone remains lighthearted and friendly, not overly dramatic

The Template:

  • What to Share: The "before" or the mistake (or just a photo of you working)

  • Caption Examples You Can Copy:

    • Example 1: "Things that didn't go as planned: This glaze turned out bright orange instead of soft peach 🍊
What I learned: Always, ALWAYS test your glazes on sample tiles first. (I got excited and skipped that step.)
Anyone else learn things the hard way, or is it just me? 😅"

    • Example 2: "Studio fail of the week: I spent 3 hours on a design, only to realize I was working at the wrong dimensions.
What I learned: Measure twice, design once. Or in my case, maybe measure three times.
Tell me I'm not the only one who does this 👇"

    • Example 3: "This piece cracked in the kiln and honestly, I'm not even mad about it anymore.
What I learned: Sometimes the clay just does what it wants. And that's okay.
The ones that survive are even more special because of the ones that didn't 🤍"

I know it sounds crazy, but if you want to make this type of content easier, keep a running note in your phone titled "Things That Went Wrong." When something doesn't work out, jot it down. When you need content, pull from that list.

These posts often get high engagement because people relate to imperfection. It humanizes you, shows your expertise, and reminds people that creative work is a process.

8. Highlight a Tool, Material, or Favorite Resource

⏱️ Time to create: 5-7 minutes

What's something you use all the time in your work? Share it. Focus on Why YOU love it (this isn’t a sales pitch).

The Template:

  • What to Share: The tool, material, or resource

  • Caption Template:

    • Option 1: [Tool/Material/Resource] I can't live without: [Name of the thing]
Why I love it: [1-2 sentences]
[Optional: How you use it OR what it helps you create]"

    • Option 2: Resource that changed my business:[Book/Course/Podcast name]
Why I love it: [What you learned or how it helped]
If you're struggling with [topic], this is worth checking out."

Here are some examples to help you get some ideas:

One tool I can't live without:My wire clay cutter (the one with the wooden handle)
Why I love it: It's been with me since day one and cuts through clay like butter. I've tried fancier versions, but I always come back to this one.
Sometimes the simplest tools are the best tools 🤍

I’m obsessed with this material right now:
Gold Leafing
Why I love it: It's so smooth and delicate, and the finished pieces have this beautiful translucent quality when they're thin enough.
It's also incredibly unforgiving, which keeps me on my toes 😅

Currently running on: coffee and this playlist [Share your Spotify link or a few song names]
What do you listen to while you work?

This type of content is great. It's easy, it's educational, and it gives your audience a glimpse into your toolkit.

9. Just Share Your Work (no long caption required)

⏱️ Time to create: 2-3 minutes (seriously)

Sometimes, your work speaks for itself. You don't need a story, a lesson, or a deep caption. Just post the what you created.

The Template:

  • What to Share: Your work (clean background, good lighting)

  • Caption: One sentence max. Or just emojis. Seriously. Here are some options you can copy and paste if you’d like:

    • "Fresh out of the kiln 🤍"

    • "Made this one for me (but it's available if you love it too)"

    • "One of my favorites from this batch 🫶"

    • "This color though 😍"

    • "Back at it"

    • "Still available 👀"

    • "Still thinking about this piece"

    • "Can't stop making these"

    • "One of my favorites"

    • Finally Finished

    • "Now available—link in bio"

    • "Just listed 🤍"

    • "Drop day: [Day/Time]"

This is your EASIEST content to batch. Take photos/videos of 10-15 finished pieces in one afternoon (or hire a friend/local photographer to do a quick product shoot) Schedule them out. Add short captions. Done.

When you're totally drained and have nothing to say, this is your go-to. It's simple, it's fast, and it reminds people why they follow you in the first place. Your work is enough.

BONUS: How to Batch All 9 Content Types in One Afternoon

Here's the secret: you don't need to create content every day. You can batch everything in one focused session and schedule it out.

The 2-Hour Batching Session:

Step 1: Gather your materials (15 minutes)

  • Make your list of 10 most-asked questions

  • Pull up your folder of customer photos/testimonials

  • Screenshot 5 things that inspired you this week

  • Get your phone ready to take photos/videos

Step 2: Photo session (45 minutes)

  • Take 5 process videos while you're working

  • Take 10-15 photos/videos of finished work (#9 content)

  • Take photos/videos of 3-5 favorite pieces (#6 content)

  • Take photos/video of 2-3 tools you love (#8 content)

Step 3: Write captions (45 minutes)

  • Use the templates in this post

  • Write 3 FAQ answers (#3 content)

  • Pick your favorite customer testimonial and write a thank you (#2 content)

  • Write one inspiration post (#4 content)

  • Use the one-liner captions for everything else

Step 4: Schedule (15 minutes)

  • Use a free scheduler like Later, Planoly, or Meta Business Suite

  • Schedule 2-3 posts per week for the next 2 weeks

Boom. You just created 2 weeks of content in 2 hours.

Or Keep It Even Simpler: Your Weekly Rotation

Don't want to batch? Use this simple weekly rotation:

Monday: Show your process (#1) — 5 minutes
Wednesday: Answer an FAQ (#3) OR Share inspiration (#4) — 10 minutes
Friday: Just post your work (#9) — 2 minutes

That's it. Three posts a week. Under 20 minutes total.

The Monthly Plan (If You Want More Structure)

  • Week 1: Process post + FAQ

  • Week 2: Customer testimonial + Inspiration

  • Week 3: Introduce yourself + Favorites roundup

  • Week 4: Mistake/lesson + Tool/resource

Pick what feels easiest and repeat it. You don't need to reinvent the wheel every time you post.

The Bottom Line

You don't need to post every day in order to grow your business. You don't need to go viral. You don't need clever captions or trending audio or perfectly curated feeds.

You just need to show up consistently with simple, authentic content that feels manageable.

Pick 3 of these ideas. Ignore the rest. Rotate through them. And most importantly, get back to doing what you actually love.

Because posting on social media shouldn't burn you out. You are a creative. Social media should be a way to support your business, not detract from it.

You've got this 🤍
